Abstract

In this article we intend to show that Foucault’s work on biopolitics and modern forms of governmentality do not have a Eurocentric character. First, we will deal with tracing Foucault’s references to the figure of the colonized, colonial relations and imperialism within the framework of his inquiries regarding the forms of exercise of power-knowledge in modernity. Then we will show that the answers provided by the philosopher to the question about the production of "the human" in Western European modernity can provide valuable keys to understand coloniality and decoloniality.
