Abstract

Objective: This review aims to provide an update on the recent advances in the diagnosis, biomarkers, chemotherapy and  surgical treatment of gastric câncer (GC). Methods: For the preparation of this review, the authors used the PubMed, Embase and SciELO data-bases. The following keywords were used: gastric cancer, risk factors, epidemiology, biomarkers, chemotherapy, gastrectomy, lymphadenectomy, multimodal treatment. Conclusion: This review includes comments regarding classification, risk factors, epidemiology of gastric câncer, diagnostic, surgery and multimodal treatment. Besides the advances in the management of GC, currently, patients with early and advanced gastric cancer are still mainly treated by surgery, (D-2 gastrectomy) combined with chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy, as well as targeting therapy to improve surgical treatment.
