Resumen

Objective: evaluate the behavior of the lung function in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease patients participating in a PR program (period between 2008 to 2014 year) as well as its relationship with clinical variables.

Methods: Secondary analysis of retrospective data in the database of the RP Santa Cruz Hospital, we evaluated two spirometry over time of 26 COPD patients. Studied variables: clinical (age, sex, ethnicity, smoking, body mass index (BMI), and time of PR) and spirometry (forced expiratory volume in 1 second, forced vital capacity, peak expiratory flow).

Results: Although there was a decline in lung function over the years to PR, no significant difference was found between the 1st and 2nd spirometry. The results of spirometry stratified by gender, ethnicity, BMI, smoking, PR time and COPD status, also was not different significantly. No correlation between the main outcomes with clinical variables was observed in this study.

Conclusions: Although COPD is a progressive disease, the lung function of the patients present low modification over the years of treatment in a pulmonary rehabilitation program and no association was observed between spirometry variables with clinical variables.
