Resumo

Wacquant estuda as conjunturas penais da sociedade contemporanea (especialmente a estadunidense) sob os anteparos propostos por Foucault, Bourdieu e os próprios trabalhos de Wacquant, tentando dissecar as ideias destes e aplicá-las ao contexto fático hora em tela. Nesse sentido, visualiza uma maior falibiilidade nas considerações de Foucault presentes em "Vigiar e Punir", esboçando maior concordância com as ideias expostas por Pierre Bourdieu, bem como suas próprias, analisando para isso as políticas públicas da Era Neoliberal e suas antecesssoras.

Loïc Wacquant, Professor de sociologia, criminólogo, sociológico e pesquisador associado a diversos centros de pesquisa internações de referência, como o Centre de sociologie européenne et de science politique da França, bem como os estadunidenses Global Metropolitan Studies Program, ao Program in Medical Anthropology, ao Center for the Study of Race and Gender, ao Designated Emphasis in Critical Theory e ao Center for Urban Ethnography.

Seus principais trabalhos são os livros “As Prisões da Miséria”, “Punir os Pobres”, e “Um Convite à Sociologia Reflexiva”, em coautoria com Pierre Bordieau.
