Abstract

Abstract

This ethnographic study was conducted at the Pindobal site, located in the rural area of the municipality of Alhandra, on the southern coast of the state of Paraíba. Its objective was to analyze the performance of a family affected by a dam in the Paraíba hinterland, considering, on the one hand, the displacement to reside in another region in search of better living and working conditions, and on the other hand, their productive and economic restructuring as sources of work and income. The methodology employed a qualitative approach, participant observation, photographic documentation, and collection of oral accounts. The systematization of this study was carried out through the analysis of sociocultural and productive experiential data and indicators that were collected from the family's social trajectory, the selection of photographs, the assembly of the photoethnographic sequence, and finally, the bibliographic review. The main result of this study indicated an improvement in the family's economic living conditions, the organization of time through the routine required by the work of a market vendor, as well as access to rural credit from the Banco do Nordeste, the organization and use of domestic spaces such as the construction of sheds and fences for the accommodation and management of poultry and animals, and the importance of open-air markets and public markets as sources of work and income.
