Abstract

ABSTRACT

The blood and bone marrow donations are essential pillars of modern therapy and play a crucial role in the treatment of several hematological, oncological, and immunological diseases. Despite their importance, bone marrow donation is still surrounded by myths and misinformation, which negatively affect public adherence and reduce the number of registered donors in the Brazilian Registry of Voluntary Bone Marrow Donors (REDOME). In this context, this study aimed to report the experience of a technical visit to the Taubaté Blood Center and to discuss the main challenges related to the dissemination of information about bone marrow donation, highlighting health education as a strategy to encourage new donor registration. This is an observational, descriptive, and qualitative study developed through direct observation of the blood center’s structure and operational flows, as well as dialogue with professionals from different sectors. The results revealed the technical rigor and complexity of the processes involved, in addition to the importance of humanized care and clear communication to reduce insecurity and strengthen the bond with the community. It is concluded that educational actions, especially in educational institutions, are fundamental to expand knowledge, demystify the donation process, and promote a culture of solidarity, contributing to the strengthening of transplant programs and collective health.
