Abstract

The Brazilian Northern Arc, a portion of Amazon Forest crossed by important logistical investments, is the new frontier of reproduction of the commercial insertion model adopted by the country, commanded by large primary-export companies, shaping the territories to their accumulation needs. Once these lands were true institutional voids, the capital that contributed there, from the 1980s onwards, needed to diversify their activities in order to structure a range of infrastructure and support services required by the core activity, including with regard to public services basic. By assuming such functions, the economic power and political influence of these capitals on these territories was greatly expanded, favoring their access to public funds and the private capacity to dictate the meaning and dynamics of land use and occupation, so that makes it possible to relate the spatial trajectory of these locations to the historical process of construction of these business groups.
