Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission must be original and unpublished, and NOT currently under consideration for publication by another journal; otherwise, it must be justified in "comments to the editor".
Submission must be made entirely electronically through our website: https://periodicos.ufrn.br/cronos/submission/wizard.
On the Revista Cronos page, select the "Register" tab (or "Sign In" if already registered). After completing registration, the next step will be submitting the text by selecting the corresponding option (Article, Review, Interview, or Poiesis) and filling out all mandatory fields.
  • The name of the author SHOULD NOT appear in the body of the article or in the properties of the documment to ensure anonymity in the evaluation process.
THE AUTHOR'S NAME, PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, AND ORCID MUST BE ATTACHED IN A SEPARATE DOCUMENT.
  • Texts must be presented in Arial or Times New Roman font, size 12 and line spacing of 1.5.
  • The Articles must include both title and abstract (up to 250 words) and keywords (up to 5) in portuguese, english and in the language in which the text was written (when this is not one of those just mentioned). The text must not exceed nine thousand words (about 25 pages).
  • The Reviews must have between a thousand and two thousand words. Also, they must have a portuguese and a english title beyond the reference of the reviewed book. Each review must have a maximum of two authors.
  • All authors must have an ORCID. A separate document must be attached during submission, indicating the full name of all authors, their academic and professional details, as well as the ORCID of each, under the penalty of the submission not being processed further.
  • At least one of the authors must have Master's degree or higher.
  • These guidelines must be taken into account when presenting the texts:
    • For quotes of up to three lines, use double quotation marks.
    • Quotes longer than three lines should be indented 4 cm (four centimeters) from the left margin, using Arial or Times New Roman font, size 11, and without quotation marks.
    • To indicate a quote within a quote, use single quotation marks (likewise for words with unconventional use).
    • Italicize foreign words, neologisms, and titles of works and publications.
    • Explanatory notes, used moderately, should be placed as footnotes and numbered sequentially.
    • The sources from which quotes are extracted must be indicated in the body of the text, immediately after each quote, containing only the following data within parentheses: Author's last name, year of publication of the work, page number(s) of the quote. Example: (Wood, 2003, p. 57). Note: When the quote is not literal, the page number(s) is optional.
  • Before sending your submission, the author must REVIEW THE TEXT VERY WELL, correcting any grammatical, typing or spelling errors. More than one reading of the material and the use of the proofreader are STRONGLY recommended.
This request (or demand) is not the result of a whim or mere formality, but rather refers to a conception of academic work that fights for the elimination (or at least the significant reduction) of the division between "intellectual" work and professional work. "manual" in our field. To make it even clearer, we take the liberty of quoting a small fragment from the book The Literary Style of Marx, by the unjustly forgotten Ludovico Silva:
"It is a common practice, among scientific researchers at North American universities [and not only these], to make a first draft of their writings and then hand them over to a 'stylist' so that he can write them up neatly. A similar division of labor would have been rejected with horror by Marx." (Silva, 1978, p. 81-2).
  • The complet references list must be presented in the end of the text, indicating each authors first name and NOT only the initial.
  • In the event that there are images (photos, paintings, drawings, engravings), the responsibility for processing the transfer of reproduction rights will be to the authors of the text.
  • Bibliographic references must meet the following criteria:

    a) Book: SURNAME OF THE AUTHOR OF THE WORK, Names. Title of the work: subtitle. Place of publication: Publisher, year of publication. IMPORTANT: ONLY THE TITLE SHOULD BE HIGHLIGHTED, NOT THE SUBTITLE.
