Abstract

The objective of this article is to do a brief history of the privatization of water in Brazil during the years of the governments of Fernando Collor de Mello (1990-1992), Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1995-2003), Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2011), Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016) and Michel Temer (2016). Our work is based on bibliographical research about the cited theme and also on analysis of the laws that were sponsored by these governments that in some way helped the process to open the capital of  some state and municipal sewage companies or be part of the Private-Public Partinership – PPP - government program. Water privatization is not something new in the daily lives of the Brazilians. However, it started as a govenmental policy during the Fernando Collor de Mello presidency, when the Neoliberal Era was initiated in Brazil.
