Abstract

This article reinterprets the state of democracy, notably in Brazil, based on the works of Antonio Gramsci and Norberto Bobbio. Dialoguing with the notion of postmodernism, it enters the debate on Brazilian redemocratization by proposing questions about democracy in the disputes for hegemony. It concludes that democracy began to incorporate the strategy of counter-hegemonic political actors, becoming a privileged stage for disputes over the direction of civil society.
