AGRIBUSINESS AND ITS BASES
CONSERVATIVE MODERNIZATION, DEPENDENCE AND PROLETARIZATION
Keywords:

This article is a synthesis based on the reading of classic and contemporary authors regarding the formation and development of agribusiness in Brazil. The starting point is the discussion of the agribusiness concept and the conservative modernization of the military dictatorship in that country. Then, I address the contradictions generated by the military regime's agricultural project, in the face of proletarianization in the countryside and external dependence, leading to the exhaustion of this model and the transition to the agribusiness economy with the advent of neoliberalism in Brazil. The objective of this work is to offer a contribution to a historical materialist approach of this process and to the studies on the subject of agribusiness, as well as to the social struggles against the precariousness of work and extractivism in the Brazilian countryside.
