Abstract

Yanis Varoufakis in his book "Technofeudalism: what killed capitalism", published in 2023, argues that capitalism is dying. This proposition is based on the characteristics of the ongoing metamorphosis in capitalism, among which the main one is the emergence of cloud capital. According to the author, cloud capital is constituted in the new fiefdoms, since they demand from those who wish to use their "cloud" a part of their gains, just as the suzerain in feudalism demanded part of the production of its vassals.  The rise of technofeudalism announces the downfall of capitalism, since it is a parasitic class that no longer moves by the classical concept of the political economy of profit, but only by income.
