In this work we seek to show some of the old legends of hauntings told in the town of Quixeré, Ceará. Through theoretical research work and interviews with local residents, we will try to learn a little more about the popular imaginary of a northeastern interior town and how this same imaginary reveals certain aspects about the town and its inhabitants. Through the analysis and understanding of haunted legends and the social context in which they are inserted, it is possible discover relevant aspects about local culture and why these narratives cross the time, reaching the present day.
