This memorial essay presents the youngest federal unit in the country - which brings with it centuries-old manifestations which depict not only its identity, but also the beliefs, traditions, culture and legacy of its people. This work was developed with a view to providing a brief overview of Tocantins's cultural manifestations, as a starting point for future research and mapping of cultural activities in the state. This study is self-referential and is organized as a memoir based on the cultural knowledge and practices of the referred state of Tocantins - a land of savannahs, dances and theatrics that talks of people who sings, prays, mandinga, celebrates and spirals their bodies and ancestry through the time, a time of a Tocantins which, metaphorically speaking, dances and plays like a child on a rainy day. This study talks of our people, from the Caretas to a mother called Dona Romana. This paper can be read as a dive into the sweet waters of the authors who have transcribed their affective and sensitive memories, or even as a cartography that portrays the legacy of people from Tocantins, of the Brazilian savannah which recreates its cultural manifestations in the present moment. This essay is an organization to put our club on the street or an invitation to sit on the sidewalk and watch the party that comes from the streets to play.
Keywords: Popular Culture. Tocantins. Memorial essay.
