Cigarrillos electrónicos y sus efectos sobre la salud bucal: revisión de la literatura

Introduction: Over time, information followed by guidelines against the use of conventional cigarettes has been produced and passed on worldwide. Some users have submitted themselves to electronic devices, thinking of avoiding the damage caused by traditional cigarettes to their health. Although this was the purpose of the production of these devices, it is not the reality, after all, their composition contains nicotine and toxic derivatives that do harm oral and systemic health. Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze and clarify the negative effects of the use of electronic cigarettes on oral health, pointing out the consequences of their use in the oral cavity. Methodology: This study is a descriptive literature review, searches were carried out in the databases: Pubmed, Scielo and Gray Literature, using the descriptors: electronic cigarette and oral health, in Portuguese and English, published between 2012 and 2022. Results: Texto dos resultados em inglês. Conclusions: It is concluded that the population should be informed about the effects of the use of electronic cigarettes in a more comprehensive and more frequent way. With information through social networks, open TV, campaigns and social actions, etc. Just as dental academics and professionals must be aware of its effects, for better diagnosis and treatment of its oral manifestations.
