Os Guias Turísticos como espelho da convergência econômica de Portugal

A presente investigação propõe-se estudar a forma como o desenvolvimento económico e civilizacional de Portugal era apresentado nos guias de turismo das últimas décadas do século XX, com recurso à componente textual e imagénica. Foi desenvolvido uma análise de conteúdo aos textos e imagens de 31 guias portugueses e estrangeiros, confrontado o discurso, procurando pontos em comum e incongruências. A investigação permitiu-nos concluir que Portugal era apresentado durante as décadas de 1980 e 1990 como um país em convergência com a restante europa ocidental, no entanto, persistem sinais de ruralidade e de subdesenvolvimento. As imagens vêm corroborar parcialmente o discurso dos textos. Das 811 imagens analisadas, 42% ilustrando um país rural, o último reduto da ruralidade na europa.
