Geoconservationist strategies for the geoheritage of the municipality of São João da Serra - Piauí (BR)

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to carry out an inventorying and quantification of geopatrimony in the municipality of São João da Serra (PI). The operational procedures included bibliographic analysis, office work and fieldwork guided by worksheets based on Oliveira (2015). For the area, 17 geosites/geomorphosites were inventoried and quantitatively evaluated. All geosites/geomorphosites have touristic and didactic values, however, the quantification allowed to infer that the Cachoeira do Lau geomorphossite obtained the highest score, 20 points, and the 11 points Afloramento de Diabásio Complex geosite is the place of least geological/geomorphological interest the municipality. Constituting a good place to promote education for geosciences based on geotourism activities, it is recommended by the public administrator to install access roads and infrastructure, with the creation of partnerships in order to create visitation programs to the areas.
