The aim of this discussion is to identify and reflect on incarcerated women process of depersonalization inflicted by prisonal institutions and to understand the institutionalization through the adaptation to mandatory conduct and norms. To reflect on the mentioned depersonalization process, Erving Goffman's notions of “total institutions” and “stigma” are used, besides the analysis of the mortification of the self in closed institutions. This article also aims to analyze the prison system from an intersectional analysis between gender, race and class, considering fundamental aspects of critical criminology in Flauzina, as a reference point, and the criminal alternatives’ discussion raised by Angela Davis. Finally, are raised possible forms of subversion to the imposition of conducts in the prison system, observing how these behaviors inside the female prisons intends to support the individualities and identities of incarcerated women, through the fieldwork done in Lemos de Brito Penitentiary Complex’s Female Penal Set, in Salvador/BA.
