Abstract

This paper aims to analyse the actions carried out at the national and
state levels to ensure the right to health of prisoners in the State of Rio
Grande do Norte. For this purpose, it is demonstrated the reality of the
prison system of Rio Grande do Norte, the main provisions of
Recommendation nº 62, from the National Council of Justice - CNJ,
regarding the treatment of incarcerated people, with the consequences generated by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was concluded that the
measures adopted to prevent the new coronavirus from reaching the
prison system were not sufficient, figuring the necessity of effective
prevention and public health policies and the reform of the prison
system as the main challenges to be overcome
