Judy Garland, a Gay Icon

an analysis of her songs and dances

Abstract

The aim of the present article is to show how certain songs interpreted by the actress Judy Garland, as well as the dances she performs in some of her films, can contribute to her famous gay icon status.

The methodology of this article is qualitative: by reading some theories about Queer and Star Studies, and viewing several of Garland's films, I developed my own analysis. With this article, I hope to deepen the academic knowledge around Garland as a gay icon.
