Forms of Study and Lines of Approach in Queer Theory:

Four contagions after Pedagogy

Abstract

Over the last three decades, research on sexual dissidence and the application of Queer Theory have provoked the exhibition and public discussion of what is classically considered domestic, private, and intimate. The analysis of its uses, powers, and justices has problematized existing social relations, sharply challenging hygienism, intellectualism, romanticism, Occidentalism, classism, and heterosexism. This account of experiences retrieves a series of forms of study and lines of approach in Queer Theory that emerged from the Pedagorgia Extension Group (which we coordinated between 2019 and 2023). These experiences, anchored in practice, not only deepen and expand the meanings of the theory but also link it to sexual education within the context of our university. From this corpus of work, we highlight four investigations that identify essential contours and contrasts for continuing to imagine Queer Theory as public knowledge, concrete and accessible. The articulation of these experiences after Pedagorgia offers a panorama of how theory can be produced and lived, transforming the academic into action.
