Pharmacoepidemiological profile of patients with Parkinson's disease in the North Plateau of Santa Catarina

Neurodegenerative diseases generate difficulties and become a health problem mainly for elderly individuals. Parkinson's disease (PD) can manifest itself as the second neurodegenerative disease with the highest incidence in the population, affecting about 1% to 2% of elderly individuals over 65 years of age. Affecting the motor and non-motor systems, the disease can cause depression and generate complications such as bradykinesia, rest tremor and difficulty in maintaining a stable posture. The pharmacotherapy aims to treat patients with PD safely and effectively, reducing the progression of symptoms. Thus, this paper aims to identify the pharmacoepidemiological profile of patients in the Pharmaceutical Care Units of the Regional Health of Mafra - SC. This is a cross-sectional, retrospective and exploratory study. The sampling consists of patients registered in the Specialized Component of Pharmaceutical Assistance of Santa Catarina attended in 2020 at UNICEAFs in North Plateau. As a result, 34 patients diagnosed with Parkinson's are assisted in the region, among which 88% are aged 60 years or older. Approximately 68% of the total registered PD patients use the drug Pramipexole 1mg provided by the specialized component. The analysis of the pharmacoepidemiological profile is an important source of information and knowledge for the population and health professionals. It is possible to observe the importance of Pharmaceutical Assistance programs for people with Parkinson's disease, since they guarantee access to medicines, enabling safe and effective treatment.
