Multiprofessional assessment and practices in adequate ventilatory weaning in intensive care units: an integrative review

The present study aims to describe the assessment and multidisciplinary practices in weaning from adequate ventilation in intensive care units. This is an integrative literature review carried out through the VHL portal, with the following databases listed: MEDLINE, LILACS, BDENF, using the descriptors (DECS/MESH): Weaning; Artificial Respiration and Intensive Care Units, through the crossing of the Boolean operator AND. Studies published between the years 2017 and 2022, articles that included the descriptors used, full texts, articles found in full, free in the databases and available in Portuguese, English and Spanish were included. Studies with incomplete texts, which did not address the theme and duplicates were excluded. Initially, 590 articles were identified, and after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and analyzing the studies, 09 articles were selected to compose the present study. Studies show that early reintubation or extubation failure is extremely serious, as it can lead to a worsening of the patient's prognosis, deterioration of respiratory function and increased mortality. Therefore, a thorough evaluation is necessary before extubation, so that there is the possibility of avoiding complications to the patient. it is evident that in clinical practice there are still significant challenges in assisting critically ill patients in performing ventilatory weaning. In this sense, it is essential that health professionals such as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and other professionals have knowledge about adequate standards for successful weaning.
