The RELATION SERTANEJO-NATURE
The “açudagem” as a practice that constitutes a writing culture in the Seridó potiguar hinterland

The practice of damming was a recurring technical phenomenon in the Seridó hinterland in the 20th century. Seen from the perspective of saving the sertanejos from drought, it was widely promoted by the state press. The dams thus modified the natural space of the Seridó, affecting the Seridó region and also expressing themselves through the memorialist narrative as inherent to this sertão. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to consider the practice of damming in the northeast as an impetus for the creation of a culture of writing about this practice in the Seridó, based on the narratives written in northeastern periodicals in the 1930s and 1940s and in memorialist pieces from the Seridó, such as the book “Sertões do Seridó” (1980) by Oswaldo Lamartine de Faria.
