PROTOCOL OF PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC CARE
FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH PARKINSON'S DISEASE IN NATAL/RN:UNIVERSITY EXTENSION PROJECT

The pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease is as follows the dysfunction of neurotransmitters, mainly the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons, of the compact portion of the substantia nigra which plays an important role in the individual's motor control. The extension project "Group Physiotherapy Assistance for Individuals with Parkinson's Disease" (AGruPar), with the purpose of performing group consultations with individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, in person and remotely happening once a week for 60 minutes. The consultations are divided into three themes, each day being a different theme: muscle strengthening; cognition; gait, coordination and balance. The services are provided by students from the Physical Therapy course at the UFRN's Natal Central Campus, supervised by a graduate preceptor and coordinated by a faculty member.
