Abstract

This article deals with the theatrical masks present in popular traditional manifestations. I bring as a demarcating issue to develop a thought that presents the traditional manifestations as a place of reference for the studies and practices of theatrical performance procedures. I associate this thought with the experiences created and performed by players, teachers and masters who start from scenic practices built and passed on among themselves, and between groups. I intend to collaborate with theater artists/researchers who take these practices as a reference for their creations, resulting in different types of approaches, dialogues, encounters and similarities. I propose the articulation of matrices that can trigger new fields of investigation from the popular scene. These concerns emerge from my work, as an actress and director, from the research and creation processes that I started in the early 1990s, where my approach to these expressions also occurs. I highlight in this trajectory the shows and investigations developed as a member of the Grupo Teatro de Caretas (CE).
