Introduction: Diet influences the oral health of individuals, however, little is known about food insecurity, nutritional status and oral health problems in quilombola individuals. Objective: To review the scientific literature in order to highlight relevant aspects of food consumption by quilombola individuals and relate them to possible problems with the oral health of these individuals. Methodology: Searches were carried out in the databases PubMed, LILACS and SciELO. In addition to manual search on Google Scholar, without period restrictions. Associated descriptors “food insecurity and quilombolas”, “oral health and group with ancestors from the African continent” and “nutrition and oral health” were used, both in English and Portuguese guided by the guiding question: what interactions justify food insecurity and oral health in quilombolas? Inclusion criteria: original articles and all types of reviews on quilombola topics, regardless of age group, food insecurity and nutrition. Results: The food insecurity observed in quilombola individuals makes them more susceptible to a decrease in oral pH and, as a result, presents many oral problems that can lead to tooth loss. The difficulty in accessing dental services faced by this population group makes them even more vulnerable in relation to oral health care. The quality of oral health services in Primary Health Care (PHC) must be evaluated. Conclusions: Difficulties in accessing food, ingesting high-calorie foods with poor nutritional value or even intermittent fasting, increase the rate of cavities and periodontal disease, impacting the high prevalence of tooth loss in quilombolas. Educational processes from PHC that associate healthy nutrition and hygiene habits should be passed on in a simple and effective way and can motivate positively transformative behaviors.
