A VISITA DOMICILIAR DO ENFERMEIRO DA ESTRATÉGIA SAÚDE DA FAMÍLIA NA ATENÇÃO AO PUERPÉRIO

Abstract

Introduction: Any sort of home care assistance performed by Family Health Strategies (Estratégia de Saúde da Família, in Portuguese) can be defined as home care visits. The postpartum period is one of such moments that require timely and qualified home medical care due to the many peculiarities involved in the mother-child binomial. Objective: To describe the main activities discussed in the literature concerning in home care visits performed by Family Health Strategies nurses during the postpartum period. Methodology: This paper follows an integrative review of the ongoing literature, with data retrieval taking place between August and September 2020 under the keywords “Home Care”, “Postpartum Period”, “Family Health Strategies” and “Nurse” in the following databases: Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online, and Base de Dados em Enfermagem. 53 potentially relevant papers were identified based on the reading of titles and abstracts. 10 of these 53 papers were selected after a detailed reading of their content. Results: Home care visits carried out by nurses during the postpartum period is well below the recommended by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, with the literature observing the general absence of home care visits. Additionally, it has been observed that, when they did occur, it was not until after the first week following the hospital discharge, which added to a lack of compliance to the guidelines by the Ministry of Health concerning home care assistance. Conclusions: The main activities discussed in the literature concerning in home care visits performed by Family Health Strategies nurses during the postpartum period consisted of the provision of health care, the perception of puerperal women and the importance of home care visits, highlighting certain shortcomings related to home care assistance in relation to the mother-child binomial.
