The research carries out a literature review on three central themes in studies on corruption: causes of corruption, consequences of corruption and ways of controlling corruption. The results indicate that the causes of corruption are related, among other factors, to low economic development and high social inequality. The consequences of corruption would affect, primarily, but not exclusively, economic growth. Regarding forms of corruption control, studies on the topic point to strengthening social control as the main measure for mitigating corruption.
