Resumo

A busca por legitimação e afirmação identitária percorreu todo o pensamento intelectual em nosso país. As manifestações populares foram tomadas como arautos representativos do caráter identitário nacional nas formas mais legítimas e puras possíveis. O ímpeto preservacionista e inócuo de tais percepções foi aqui redirecionado para um olhar crítico sobre os embates socioculturais que emergem como elementos significativos para a apreciação dessas manifestações. O folguedo do boi-bumbá da cidade de Campina Grande - PB é analisado com foco nas disputas por legitimação e afirmações identitárias tendo como fio condutor as lutas dos brincantes pela continuidade de suas manifestações e pela institucionalização de suas práticas. A inventividade e a criatividade cultural se destacam na busca pela demarcação de um caráter próprio do boi campinense, onde a musicalidade aparece como o substrato que consubstancializa o principal aparato material artístico elaborado pelas comunidades que brincam o boi.

ABSTRACT

The search for legitimacy and identitary affirmation went through all the intellectual thought in our country. Popular demonstrations were taken as representative heralds of the national identitary character in the most legitimate and pure forms as possible. The preservationist and innocuous impetus of such perceptions was redirected here for a critical view of the socio-cultural conflicts that emerge as significant elements for the appraisal of these events. The folkloric party called boi-bumbá, or “hit my bull”, from Campina Grande - PB is analyzed with a focus on disputes over legitimacy and assertions of identity on the basis of the struggles of revelers for the continuation of its manifestations and for the institutionalization of its practices. The inventiveness and the cultural creativity are highlighted in the search for the demarcation of a proper character for the bull from Campina Grande - PB, where the musicality appears as the substrate that gives substance to the main artistic material apparatus elaborated by the communities that take part in this popular regional festival.
