Abstract

It aims to identify and comprehend anthropologically what gender and
sexuality mean for Young people of 15 and 18 years old, in Tucuruí city,
Pará’s state. In order to do this, it seeks to understand what the college
students understand as masculine and feminine and how social values
influence their social experience, to know with which people usually

talk about the subject, how they notice the thematic and how they talk
about their personal experience. Empirical data were collected in different
times, during 2016 and 2017 years, counting with the discussion
of the mentioned subjects in class, application of 21 questionnaires and
informal conversations (beyond class time). Treating about gender and
sexuality in the classroom is often confused with the students’ personal
experience, which is reflected in a system of classifications (hierarchical)
that they trigger to talk about themselves and the others. When
asked about male and female, the speeches depart from the binary
gender standard, reproducing a heteronormative discourse, marked
by expressions such as “I think it’s wrong”, “I don’t agree”, “there are
only two sexes”. However, the hegemonic reproduction speech doesn’t
prevent from trying “staying with boys and girls”, as they say, neither
restricts the friendship with people who declare themselves to be gays
“bi” or lesbians. The analysis framework that is drawn, reveals situations
of hierarchies reproduction and non-acceptance of the other, provoking
the place reflexion in the diversity and youth in contemporary society.
