About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Revista de Casos e Consultoria is a journal linked to the Case Method Research Group, with open access and continuous publication flow. The journal accepts manuscripts in Portuguese, Spanish, and English in all areas of knowledge, especially focusing on Teaching Cases and Consultancy.
Section Policies
The journal publishes a variety of academic contributions, including original research articles, review articles, conference papers, and scientific initiation articles, as well as dossiers, essays, experience reports, reviews, educational resources, and teaching cases. All submitted works undergo peer review.
Peer Review Process
Peer Review Process and Editorial Workflow
All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo a scientific arbitration process. The evaluation of manuscripts is carried out by peers, preferably by reviewers external to the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), and strictly follows the editorial workflow below:
a. Initial Screening and Technical Verification (Up to 14 days): After submission, the section editor (or technical support team) conducts an initial screening to check if all required data are included in the file and the journal's system. At this stage, it is evaluated whether the manuscript meets the journal's scope, formatting guidelines, and ethical criteria. The editor may forward the work directly to peer review, redirect it to another appropriate internal section, or reject it, guiding the authors toward a new submission.
b. Peer Review Modalities and Deadlines (From 28 days onwards): Articles approved in the initial screening are forwarded to at least two external reviewers who are experts in the field. Reviewers have a regulatory period of 28 days to submit each report. The process follows one of the models below:
- Standard Method - Double-Blind Peer Review: Adopted for conventional submissions, where the identity of both authors and reviewers remains completely confidential.
- Preprints Policy - Single-Blind Peer Review: The journal accepts manuscripts previously deposited in reliable preprint servers (e.g., SciELO Preprints, SSRN). In these specific cases, a single-blind review is adopted since authorship is already in the public domain on the originating platform, while only the anonymity of the reviewers remains guaranteed.
c. Editorial Decision and Successive Rounds (From 28 days onwards): Based on the reviews received, the editors issue an intermediate or final editorial decision, classified as: Accept, Corrections Required (major or minor), or Reject. If changes are requested (Corrections Required), the authors must submit the revised version along with a point-by-point response letter detailing the changes made. Depending on the complexity of the modifications, the editor will initiate a new round of evaluation. The manuscript may be resent to the original reviewers or to new expert reviewers, who will again have 28 days for analysis. This cycle of revisions and successive editorial decisions repeats until a definitive decision of acceptance or rejection is reached. In case of persistent lack of consensus, the final decision rests with the editor.
d. Final Version Submission and Scientific Integrity (21 days): Upon formal approval by the editor, authors must submit the consolidated version of the manuscript containing: (1) the final, properly revised text file, and (2) the report issued by text similarity and plagiarism detection software (preferably using the CopySpider tool).
e. Editing and Publication (40 days): Once all technical documentation is validated, the approved manuscript proceeds to the final text editing and layout stages, and is subsequently published electronically in the current table of contents of the journal.
Frequency
The Revista de Casos e Consultoria is an annual journal published on a continuous flow basis (rolling publication).
Open Access Policy
This Journal provides immediate open access to its content, following the principle that freely sharing scientific knowledge with the public promotes greater global democratization of knowledge.
Publication Fees (APCs) and Diamond Model
Revista Casos e Consultoria operates under the Diamond Open Access model. This means that the journal is entirely free of charge at all stages, both for those who publish and for those who read. Therefore, the journal establishes that:
- For authors: No fees of any kind are charged. There are no submission charges, no Article Processing Charges (APCs), and no costs for publication or for making color pages and images available.
- For readers: All scientific content is available for immediate, unrestricted, and free access, with no need for subscriptions, paid registrations, or download fees.
What does the Diamond Model mean? The Diamond model represents the highest level of the democratization of science. Unlike other open access models where authors must pay high fees (APCs) to make their articles freely available, or traditional models where libraries and readers pay to access content, the Diamond model eliminates financial barriers at both ends. The journal is entirely funded by institutional support, ensuring that scientific knowledge is a public good accessible to society as a whole.

Publication Ethics and Negligence Declaration
The journal is committed to adhering to good practices regarding moral conduct consistent with the scientific editing of journals. Preventing negligence is also a crucial responsibility of the author, editor, and editorial team: any form of unethical behavior, as well as plagiarism in any instance, is not accepted. Authors submitting articles to the journal guarantee that the work has not been published nor is under review/evaluation in any other journal.
The journal recommends using the CONSORT 2010 checklist and flowchart as a submission requirement when reporting the results of a randomized study. Templates for these can be found on the CONSORT website [www.consort-statement.org], which also describes various CONSORT checklist extensions for different projects and types of data in addition to two parallel group tests. Articles should report the content covered by each item on the checklist. Meeting these basic requirements will increase the chances of eventual publication.
The Journal is aligned with open access policies (Open Access) and agrees with and follows the recommendations outlined in the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). The DORA Declaration is available in Portuguese at: https://sfdora.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/DORA_Brazilian-Portuguese.pdf.
Storage and Distribution Policies
The journal embraces an inclusive policy regarding preprints, allowing the submission of works already stored on other platforms. Additionally, it authorizes the storage and access of preprint versions of submitted manuscripts in institutional or digital repositories. Once the article is accepted, the author’s post-print version may also be stored and accessed, along with the journal's final post-print version.
The journal follows the Green model, enabling the storage and access of all versions (preprint and post-print) in digital repositories. Documents are made available immediately after acceptance, ensuring immediate open access. Publications are licensed under Creative Commons CC BY, allowing distribution, remixing, adaptation, and the creation of derivative works, including for commercial purposes, as long as proper credit is given to the original author. It is important to note that the journal does not charge any publication fees.
In order to preserve the content stored in the Portal, UFRN maintains a technical cooperation agreement, as a full partner, with the Cariniana Network – the Brazilian Network of Digital Preservation Services. Through the LOCKSS software and its distributed digital preservation model, the network seeks to ensure continuous long-term access to this content.
Open Access Policy
Revista Casos e Consultoria is a fully open-access journal, meaning that all its content is available free of charge and immediately, with no costs to the user or their institution. In accordance with the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) definition of Open Access, users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, provided proper credit is given to the original authors.
