Evaluation of therapeutical effectivity in private schizophenic patients of freedom a judicial manicomym of Ceará

Abstract

Schizophrenia is defined as a psychiatric disorder, which causes behavioral changes such as social affection, disconcerting interpersonal life, whether family, school, occupational, among others. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of antipsychotic treatment of prison patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. This is a retrospective study, of a pharmacoepidemiological nature and with a quantitative approach, carried out at the Governador Stênio Gomes Psychiatric Institute, in Itaitinga-CE. The results showed a mean age of 42.1 ± 11.7 for male patients, with paranoid schizophrenia (F20.0) being the most common and homicide, the crime committed most frequently with 64.29% of patients. Haloperidol was the most prescribed drug (135.72%) associated with promethazine (129%). Drug interactions were evaluated, being used by some patients orally and parenterally, when necessary, and it was observed that the highest percentage occurred among antipsychotics (28.90%) and between antipsychotics and antihistamines (27.47%). It is concluded that pharmaceutical attention is necessary for the good performance of drug treatment, in view of the safety problems and adverse reactions that may arise.
