The new 2019 coronavirus or severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) belong to the ? species of coronaviruses, which are transmitted mainly through respiratory droplets and close contact, and can be found in human respiratory epithelial cells in approximately 96 h, which primarily attack the lungs and induce serous fluid, fibrin exudates and hyaline membrane formation in the alveoli. Thus, this study aimed to identify the prevalence of symptoms of COVID-19 in people treated and diagnosed with the disease in a Basic Health Unit, in the city of Nazária, in the state of Piauí. The research consists of a cross-sectional observational study, with data collected through the analysis of medical records. The results show that the highest prevalence of symptoms was in males, and approximately 15% of adult patients have the triad of symptoms of fever, cough and dyspnea, and 90% have more than one symptom. In children, the signs and symptoms may be similar to those of other common viral respiratory infections and other childhood illnesses. Therefore, it was evident that there is a considerable prevalence of people cared for with symptoms of COVID-19 in a Basic Health Unit located in the city of Nazária, Piauí, highlighting the importance of creating health care policies after COVID a this population.
