Abstract

Music has been present in the history of societies since the beginning, being used and referenced by several peoples. The understanding of musical practice as therapy is also old, but only in more contemporary societies has music therapy started to be academically studied and used in several situations. As a therapeutic practice, music has been and continues to be used by nurses around the world, and it is no different in Brazil. The objective of this study is to evaluate the benefits of music therapy in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patients. This is an integrative review, carried out in the LILACS, MedLine and IBECS databases through the VHL using the PICO strategy. Through the search, 150 works were found, being analyzed 18 scientific articles, where it was observed that the studied therapy has efficacy in reducing pain, in the short and long term, as well as helping in the psychological symptoms, especially after a few days of therapy. In addition, music therapy has an effect on hemodynamic parameters, with the main result being the maintenance or reduction of vital signs. Thus, it was realized that music therapy has several benefits in perioperative patients, even when different approaches are used. Moreover, the therapy is also beneficial for health professionals and services.
