Knowledge of Physiotherapy students about the physiotherapy care of patients with HIV/AIDS

Objective: To analyze the knowledge of academics in the physiotherapy course of an institution in the interior of Maranhão, about HIV/AIDS and the ways in which physiotherapists work with these patients. Methodology: Observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study of epidemiological nature where 88 students from the physiotherapy course were evaluated through a self-administered questionnaire. Results: In general, satisfactory answers were observed regarding the difference between HIV/AIDS, forms of transmission, vulnerability, prevention and treatment. 98.86% consider multidisciplinary treatment necessary for patients with HIV/AIDS, with the physiotherapist as an important part of the team. Conclusion: Discrimination and stigma show that information about the ways of HIV transmission requires a new posture with the inclusion of the theme in pedagogical projects and more information, considering that the multidisciplinar team will provide care to PLHIV both in relation to health promotion and the rehabilitation.
