Epidemiological characteristics of Zika virus cases in the state of Piauí

Abstract

This study aims to describe the epidemiological characteristics of Zika Virus cases in the state of Piauí (2015-2020). It is a cross-sectional quantitative and descriptive design. Data were extracted from the DATASUS platform, with variables included: gestational age, gender, age, city of notification and education. Data were organized and analyzed using descriptive statistics. 1371 cases of Zika Virus were detected in the state of Piauí; and, through this total, it was found that 6.35% of women were in the 3rd trimester, 71.77% were male, 48.87% were in the range of young adults, 55.80% were notifications of Teresina and 13.64% of the individuals had completed high school The identification of the epidemiological profile of the studied population indicated essential aspects for improving public health approaches.
