Adverse effects of chemotherapeutic drugs and interdisciplinary assistance in alleviating side effects

This study sought to analyze the national and international scientific production on care strategies for relief in adverse effects to women undergoing chemotherapy treatment. This is a narrative review, with a descriptive approach. For theoretical foundation, it used the following databases: LILACS, MEDLINE and virtual health library: SciELO, identified through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), between the years 2016 and 2021, through the descriptors: "Adverse Effects AND Cancer" and "Chemotherapy OR Treatment AND Cancer OR Side Effects AND Complementary Therapies OR Therapeutics", with the use of the Boolean operators AND and OR, between the descriptors, which were used in double and triple. The inclusion criteria were: articles published in full in digital format that addressed the subject of study, theses, dissertations, published in Portuguese and English, and the exclusion criteria were: papers that did not fit the inclusion criteria and repeated in databases, reviews, editorials and medical bulletins. According to the eligibility criteria, 21 articles were included in this study. The results pointed to the importance of interdisciplinary actions to the cancer patient in an integral way, these professionals need to contain technical-scientific knowledge and skills in interpersonal relationships, promoting health actions and educational practices, in the sense of prevention and promotion. Therefore, the effective assistance of the multidisciplinary team directly affects the patient's self-care, enabling self-confidence in the chemotherapy process, where the interdisciplinary team applies promotion and prevention in the quality of life of the patient under treatment.
