The multiprofessional team facing palliative care in the hospital environment

The present study aims to report through scientific evidence the role of the multiprofessional team in palliative care in the hospital environment. This is an integrative review of qualitative literature. The search for the works involved in the research were sought in the following databases: SCIELO, LILACS, BDENF and MEDLINE, from the descriptors in health sciences: "Palliative Care", "Multiprofessional Team" and "Hospice Care". Inclusion criteria were: published between 2011 and 2021, with free access to full texts, articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish and related to the theme. Exclusion criteria were: duplicate articles, incomplete articles, abstracts, reviews, debates, articles published in proceedings of events and unavailable in full. Quality care at the end of life is only possible with a qualified and confident team. Therefore, continuing education is configured as an important strategy to mitigate the formative deficiency, so that the adequately specialized and trained team is able to act with more confidence. The present study demonstrates that palliative care is closely related to curative care, which encompasses both the assistance to the patient and to the family, and this care becomes more effective when performed by a trained multiprofessional team.
