The study of Indigenous History in Minas Gerais, today, has force within the academy, and can highlight, for example, the studies of Maria Leônia Chaves de Resende. But there is still a large gap in relation to the south of Minas, which, in the colonial period, was one of the main circulation points between Rio / São Paulo and the region of gold mines, which affected the dynamics of indigenous peoples who lived or passed. there. This study proposes a brief recap of what has been studied about the South Minas Gerais Indigenous History, focusing on the Serra da Mantiqueira and the Verde River, from the municipality of Virginia, showing what has been done so far and what is intended to be done. to deepen research and contribute to the rescue and valorization of indigenous elements in South Minas Gerais society.
