This article seeks to analyze the end of the “War of the Barbarians” as declared by the councilors in 1722, as well as the peace agreements established between indigenous leaders and the Portuguese during religious missions in the villages during the conflicts in the backlands of Ribeira do Açu. And through the sources, we investigated the outcome of this war through actions based on retreats and attempts at pacification, understanding that these conflicts were not linear and progressive, in which there were moments of alliances and friendships, as well as confrontations. The use of “quietation” used by the monarchy was not limited to the settlement of “barbarians” in villages, but also included rebellions that occurred in these territories, revealing the resistance of these groups.
