This article is part of the results of the research carried out for the doctoral thesis “Demographic Profile of Parishes in the Seridó/Rio Grande do Norte-Brazil (1840-1900)”. Thus, we will analyze the demographic variable, birth rates from research births that took place in the second half of the 19th century, among the free and and enslaved population of the parishes of Sant'Anna do Seridó and Nossa Senhora da Guia, which today correspond to the cities of Caicó and Acari, respectively, both belonging to the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The sources analyzed were the baptismal records. The methodology used was that proposed by the Frenchmen Henry and Fleury (1988), in their Manual of Historical Demography. We will present the results found for birth movements, gross birth rates and the seasonality of free and enslaved people. Therefore, based on these findings, we offer some preliminary observations on the subject.
