This paper aims to analyze how the 1877 drought was represented in the newspaper Brado Conservador. The analysis focuses on articles that highlight at least three key aspects: economic, political, and technical dimensions. Three excerpts from the newspaper are selected to represent each of these aspects, based on the newspaper's digital archive available in the Brazilian Digital Hemeroteca. The methodology for selecting these excerpts is based on the method of signs, which allowed for the identification of clues in the articles that reveal how the topic of drought reflects the economic and political issues of the time, as well as the technical and interventionist approaches surrounding the issue in Açu during the second half of the 19th century.
