The objective of this work is to analyze the different discourses about the fires that afflicted the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, coming from the newspapers that circulated in Natal during the years 1940 to 1950, especially the periodicals: A República, A Ordem, Diário de Natal and Tribuna from the North. The research was developed based on two large fires that caused great social and economic damage. To this end, we reflect on the city as a space where capital materializes in the search for its production and reproduction in urban space (LEFEBVRE, 2001) and considering the spatial dimension in historiographical discourse not only in its “classical” dimension, of scenery, stage of history, or as a natural space, as nature, but as an object subject to historical intervention and human action (CERTEAU, 1994).
