Abstract

The article explores the trajectory of the Anjo Azul statue in the city of Natal (RN) and the political, social and poetic meanings that emerge from its transformation from a work of art to a ruin. Initially created by the artist Jordão for a local gallery, the sculpture ended up abandoned and destroyed with the closure of the space and became a ruin in a public square for almost a decade, being reinterpreted, since then, as a socially constructed monument that reflects the tensions between public space, memory and artistic intervention.
