This text was developed in the field of Urban History, having a documentary and bibliographic character, analyzing the role of newspapers, in particular, periodicals from Rio Grande do Norte, in broadcasting news about fires in Rio Grande do Norte, discussing, from these sources, the movements political and social issues for the creation of the Fire Department in Natal in 1917 - its performance in the urban space of the capital of Rio Grande do Norte, during the 1920s, and, subsequently, its decline in the first years of the 1930s, as well as the repeated matters journalistic reports about the constant fires that the capital of Rio Grande do Sul suffered, without there being an organized fire extinguishing service in the 1940s.
