This paper will discuss the veneration of Icons and the presence of Imperial Images as places of memory. It will examine how these imagery elements were the subject of dispute during the First Phase (726-787) of the Iconoclasm (726-843) in the Byzantine Empire. During the Iconoclasm, there were two groups called iconoclasts (against icons) and iconodules (in favor of icons) who were present in the imperial dispute in Byzantium.
