Oswaldo Reynoso's eroticism: party and violence in the city of kings

This article discusses the meanings of violence in the work of the Peruvian writer Oswaldo Reynoso (1931-2016), focusing on the analysis of the novel En octubre no hay milagros (1965). It also proposes a dialogue with his other productions, the characteristics of the 1950s generation and the context of Peru regarding the elaboration of the fictional universe based on the city of Lima. The article finally analyzes the atmosphere of violence created in the novel with the help of the categories of “party” (Roger Caillois) and “eroticism” (Georges Bataille), which allow expanding the possibilities of interpretation of the religious elements present in the narrative.
