This work aims to determine the performance of the final cover, that is generally applied to Brazilian sanitary landfills, through of the determination of the hydric balance portions, saturation and pore pressure profiles, using numerical modeling of the water flow of the hydric balance. The numerical modeling was carried out with the help of GeoStudio's Vadose/w Software (2007), considering different periods of the year with higher and lower precipitation. According to the hydric balance plots, all models analyzed presented high percolation values. Therefore, the model with a coverage of 30 cm of natural soil was selected for water flow analysis, considering that it was the configuration used in the sanitary landfill where the data used in this work were obtained. Considering the analyzes of saturation and pore pressure profiles, the model in question did not present good performance for application in final layers of sanitary landfills, given its inability to maintain saturation conditions in rainy and dry seasons, which would allow the gases flow escape from the interior of the system. Numerical modeling proved to be a viable tool in analyzing the performance of RSU-land cover systems, helping to quickly predict their behavior.
