ANÁLISE DA CONFECÇÃO DE IMAGENS SOBRE E COM O NEGO FUGIDO DE ACUPE/ BAHIA

Abstract

The article presents an anthropological analysis of research data from the image mapping "Ethnographic Documentation of Photographic Archives with and about Nego Fugido of Acupe/Bahia," conducted in 2021 on a digital social network with 13 photographers, regarding the process of creating images that make up personal and public archives.

To start, Nego Fugido is a polysemic Afro-American cultural manifestation (GONZÁLEZ, 1988) that takes place every Sunday in July in a quilombola community in the Recôncavo Baiano region called Acupe. In this event, participants claim recognition and Black protagonism in the history of liberation from slavery. They dramatize the revolution through dance, music, the use of substances in costume creation, and body painting.

Annually, the appearance (PINTO, 2016) attracts a varied audience, including researchers, artists, tourists, and many photographers. Photography, or imagery, has been a significant way of disseminating the existence of this appearance (RAMOS, 1996), especially beyond the community. Considering image the conection between the worlds inside and outside the community, I propose to analyze data on the creation of photographs as cultural documents, in conjunction with the ethnographic strategy of participant-observation conducted during visits to the community between 2012 and 2020 (XX, 2013, 2016, 2023). The images themselves will not be analyzed, but rather the discourses and data concerning their creation. The results reveal that the production of images with and about Nego Fugido evokes different meanings for those inside and outside the community.
